Lemon Bay is a fully Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.


Originally one of only 165 in the world and 25th in the state of Florida, we have a nesting pair of bald eagles in our 8-acre eagle preserve on the course. We are fortunate to see young eagles fledge each spring.

Wildlife that you may encounter at Lemon Bay includes:

  • Mammals: armadillo, bobcat, cottontail rabbit, coyote, eastern mole, feral hogs, gray fox, gray squirrel, manatee, red fox, rabbit, opossum, otter, palmetto rat, raccoon, and skunks
  • Reptiles/Amphibians: alligator, brown anole, chameleon, coral snake, corn snake, cottonmouth snake, Florida cooter, Florida soft shell turtle, geckos, green anole, iguanas, indigo snake, eastern diamondback rattlesnake,ribbon snake, gopher tortoise, leatherback turtle, painted box turtle, and southern black racer
  • Fish: bream, catfish, largemouth bass, and juvenile tarpon
  • Birds: anhinga, bald eagle, blue heron, blue jay, cardinal, coots, crow, dove, gallinules, grackles, glossy ibis, great blue heron, great white egret, green heron, hawks (several varieties), kingfisher, limpkin, Louisiana heron, moorhen, nigh heron, owls (several varieties), roseate spoonbill, sandhill crane, scrub jay, snowy egret, terns, tri-colored heron, yellow crowmed night heron. white ibis, woodpeckers, and wood stork
